Description
2013 Pyramid Valley Angel Flower Pinot Noir. Pyramid Valley Vineyard is located in New Zealand on the south island, between Waikari and Hawarden. There are 4 separate blocks planted at Pyramid Valley totalling about 2.2 hectares of vines. Each block is planted to reflect soil types. Both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are planted at a density of 10000 to 12000 vines per hectare on clay-limestone soils. Each block is irregular in shape, this reflects the soil type. The Angel Flower Pinot Noir block is quite exposed, it is north facing and reflects lightness, delicacy and an ethereal scent.
The fruit for the 2013 Angel Flower Pinot Noir was hand picked, hand sorted and hand de-stemmed. The wine was fermented with yeast cultured from Pyramid Valley and is un-fined and unfiltered. The Angel Flower Pinot Noir was aged in clay and in the barrel, new oak is used in small quantities as this allows the wine to speak for itself in terms of the vineyard, vintage conditions and ultimately where they come from.
The 2013 Pyramid Valley Angel Flower is a stunning wine. It has been rated very highly by wine critics throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is made in tiny quantities, these bottles are screw cap and she weighs in at a modest 12.5% acl/vol.
