Description
2010 Château Pontet-Canet is situated south of Chateaux Mouton Rothschild and d’Armailhac in the Pauillac appellation. Château Pontet-Canet is about 80 hectares (200 acres Grown) and is mainly planted to cabernet sauvignon. The soil is very poor, full of gravel, it is amazing that anything grows here but such is the robust nature of these vines they have adapted perfectly to Pauillac’s climate and soil. Chateau Pontet-Canet is a full bodied wine with longevity and are well known and much loved for their finesse and elegance. Château Pontet-Canet is a cabernet sauvignon with a blend of cabernet franc and merlot which add complexity and charm and assist in strengthening the mid palate. In some vintages Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac contains a small portion of petit verdot which also adds further charm and complexity to the wine.
Preparation for harvest commences as soon as the previous harvest has finished. Attention to detail is paramount during harvest, all fruit is hand picked, carefully placed into small baskets and sent to the sorting tables without delay. Since the 1999 vintage all fruit for Château Pontet-Canet is sorted in lots of seven and one half kgs rather than two tonnes. The grapes are carefully sorted on sorting tables, this method allows for absolute minimal handling and it avoids bruising and damage to the grapes which in turn allows for them to be in pristine condition for fine tuning the resulting blend.
