2000 Penfolds Grange Bin 95. This is an early drinking Penfolds Grange, probably best consumed within the first 15 to 20 years. The 2000 vintage was difficult, late rains slowed ripening and at best this was a moderate vintage of around 6/10.
Penfolds Grange is a very famous Australian wine and is recognised around the globe as one of the worlds best and most consistent wines. The 2000 vintage of Penfolds Grange marked the 50th consecutive release of this world famous wine. Penfolds Grange is a fully ripe, intensely flavoured wine that is matured in new American oak for about 18 months. Penfolds Grange is generally at its best after 15 years to 20 years of cellaring, the wine builds up flavour and complexity in the bottle. If you love drinking wine, you must try Penfolds Grange one day, it is expensive but perhaps a small group of 3 or 4 of your wine loving friends can all chip in and you can have a glass each.
The 2000 Penfolds Grange is deep red crimson in colour. The nose possess tobacco, black liquorice, exotic spices, black pepper, berried fruits and smoky barrel fermented notes. On the palate the wine is mouth filling and generous. Plum fruits, dark chocolate court a deceptive play of substantial ripe tannins, it is a more powerful Penfolds Grange than the nose suggests. Drink until 2018.
