2013 Best’s Great Western Sparkling Shiraz. This really is a great sparkling shiraz. It is a no brainer.
After a 40 year absence, Best’s Great Western Sparkling Shiraz was re-introduced after being, well… virtually AWOL for the previous 40 years. Sparkling shiraz has been made in the Great Western wine region since the early 1900’s and some have been pretty awesome too.
Regional characteristics are at the fore, spice and plummy fruit characters. Generally the base wine for Best’s Sparkling Shiraz is left on lees in the bottle for 20 months or longer and disgorged in the traditional manner. A small quantity of very old Best’s Liqueur Muscat complements the base wine, it adds complexity and interest to the wine.
