2012 Rockford Basket Press shiraz.
Rockford Winery is located in the Barossa Valley. They make some highly sought wines including Rockford Basket Press shiraz and Sparkling Black Shiraz.
Owner and Winemaker, Robert O’Callaghan is committed to maintaining the best of the traditional old world wine trade, which requires lots of manual labour, skill and loads of hard work.
The shiraz fruit used to make Rockford Basket Press is sourced from local growers, much of the fruit comes from very old and some of the best dry grown, “old vine” vineyards in the Barossa Valley and its sub-regions such as Kalimna, Ebenezer and the Eden Valley. Some of these vines are between 60 and 135+ years of age and they produce fruit that is big and bold in colour, it has power and great richness.
The Barossa Valley has over 500 independent grape growers. Their vineyards are broken up into separate small blocks of different grape varieties, varying ages and on different soil types. Robert O’Callaghan has a great deal of respect for the accumulated knowledge, skill and long term commitment of the growers he works with and never under estimates the contribution they make to each of his wines.
