Description

The 1998 Rockford Basket Press shiraz is a super wine.  Rated 96Pts by Jeremy Oliver this is now a very collectable wine.  The 1998 vintage was a ripper, rated 10/10 for Barossa Valley shiraz.  A warm and dry ripening period over summer followed spring rains, allowing an even ripening period and a low yielding but very high quality harvest.

Fruit used to make Rockford Basket Press is sourced from local growers, much of the fruit comes from very old and some of the best dry grown, “old vine” vineyards in the Barossa Valley and its sub-regions such as Kalimna, Ebenezer and the Eden Valley.  Some of these vines are between 60 and 135+ years of age and they produce fruit that is big and bold in colour, it has power and great richness.

The Barossa Valley has over 500 independent grape growers, whose vineyards are broken up into separate small blocks of different grape varieties, varying ages and on different soil types.

Robert O’Callaghan has a great deal of respect for the accumulated knowledge, skill and long term commitment of the growers he works with and never under estimates the contribution they make to each of his wines.
