The 2016 Adelina Shiraz Mataro could well be the bargain of the year. The 2016 vintage is a 70/30 – Shiraz/Mataro blend, around 50% of the wine is from vines more than 100 years of age, and predominately from vines planted between 1910 and 1930. The Mataro comes from Adelina’s neighbour, Wendouree. The fruit was hand picked, the wine was matured in used oak and only 4950 bottles were made, which isn’t a lot, around 825 cases (6 bottle cases). The 2016 Adelina Shiraz Mataro drinking window is somewhere around 2030+ it’s a wine largely built on tannin, the fruit is humming away in the background.
