Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard can be found on a steep north facing slope of the Warramate Ranges of Victoria’s Yarra Valley, beside vineyards belonging to both Yarra Yering and Coldstream Hills, it’s fair to say it is in some pretty handy company. The Sexton vineyard is both exposed and demanding. It is located high up the slopes, topsoil is thin and the vines root systems are established in shallow gravelly loams above a tough rocky clay base. Vigoir and bunch yields are set naturally low in this environment, facilitating a low intervention approach to what is otherwise hand tended viticulture. Biodynamic vineyard management principles are being introduced with the purpose of further distinguishing the site and improving grape and wine quality.
The 2015 Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir is 100% fruit hand picked and fermented in 4000L open oak vats at 40% whole bunch. Delestage by gravity with the occasional plunge. There are only 3100 bottles made and again this is another highly rated Pinot Noir.
