Description
The 2012 Penfolds Grange is another fabulous release of this highly sought, world class wine. The 2012 vintage is a blend of shiraz (98%) and cabernet sauvignon (2%) and was matured in new American oak Hogsheads for 18 months.
Fruit used in the 2012 Penfolds Grange was hand picked from premium vineyards in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, Coonawarra wine regions.
An early bud-break came about as a result of lower than average rain fall in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Spring rain and a mild summer were ideal. The Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale experienced mild day time temperatures and cool evenings which allowed for good flavour development. There were bursts of warm and dry periods up until picking which enabled fruit to be at optimum quality. Smaller berry and bunch sizes along with favourable weather conditions induced great results for traditional quality markers-colour, tannin profile, fruit concentration and flavour depth.
This is a great Grange, make no mistake about it.
