Description

The 1977 Penfolds Grange is considered a good but not a great Penfolds Grange. The 1977 Penfolds Grange was the last Penfolds Grange to be entered in Australian Wine Shows, by this time Penfolds Grange was well established and there wasn’t much to gain by entering it into wine shows. There isn’t a lot of this vintage floating about on the secondary wine market but it isn’t seen as a highly collectable vintage.

During the Rewards of Patience sixth edition the wine was described as deep red brick in colour. Fresh blackberry/cedar/redcurrant/herb garden aromas. Dried herb/leathery/blackberry/meaty flavours, with a touch of underlying savoury oak and leafy powdery dry tannins. The 1977 Penfolds Grange has peaked and it could be in decline, drink soon. The 1977 Penfolds Grange is a blend of 91% shiraz and 9% cabernet sauvignon. Fruit for this wine was sourced from the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Kalimna Vineyard and Magill Estate.
