Description
The 1976 Penfolds Grange is one of the best releases of this famous Australian wine, it is considered one of the best “A” Grade Grange’s and bottles that are in excellent condition (wine levels are base of neck or bottles have passed through the Penfolds Red Wine Clinic) are very collectable. Robert Parker Jnr awarded the 1976 Penfolds Grange 100/100, it is the only Penfolds Grange Robert Parker Jnr himself has awarded 100 points. The 1976 Penfolds Grange won 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
At the Rewards of Patience, sixth edition, the 1976 Penfolds Grange was described as deep red brick in colour. It is an intense, plush and powerful wine with rich dark chocolate/molasses/panforte liquorice aromas and roasted/earthy/walnut notes. The palate is beautifully concentrated and buoyant with seductive dark chocolate/prune/molasses flavours and plenty of sweet fruit characters. The tannins are sinewy and long, building up firm at the finish, it is a delicious and well balanced Penfolds Grange with plenty of concentration and extract to last the distance. The 1976 Penfolds grange is a blend of 89% shiraz and 11% cabernet sauvignon. Fruit was sourced from the Barossa Valley, Kalimna Vineyard, Magill Estate and Modbury Vineyard. The 1976 Penfolds Grange was the 25th Anniversary of Grange.
