Description

The 1957 Penfolds Grange is now a very rare bottle of wine, there wasn’t much of this vintage made. The 1957 Penfolds Grange is a blend of 88% Shiraz and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit coming from vineyards located in the McLaren Vale wine region, Magill Estate and Morphett Vale.

Vintage Conditions for the 1957 Penfolds grange were described as mild and dry with only half the average rainfall for the growing season. The vintage was dry and mild to warm.

The 1957 Penfolds Grange is the first of three “hidden” Granges. Penfolds Management ordered Max Schubert to stop making Penfolds Grange but he continued to do so in secret. The 1957 Penfolds grange was matured in the previous year’s Grange oak barrels because new American oak barrels weren’t available. Only three hogsheads (just over 1000 bottles) were made. The 1957 Penfolds Grange went on to win gold and three silver Australian wine show medals in 1962 and 1963.
