Tyrrell’s Johnno’s Shiraz. A magnificent Hunter Valley Shiraz, from a single vineyard planted in 1908 and on sandy alluvial soils.
Fruit for Johnno’s Shiraz was hand picked and hand sorted in the vineyard on 29 January. Natural fermentation took place in open top vats and the wine was matured in a new single 2700L French Oak Cask for 15 months.
This vintage, the wine shows a bright attractive purple colour. The nose consists of red fruits, violets with a hint of oak. The palate is intense but the wine is light on its feet; the fruit is the dominant character, complemented by oak, acid and tannin, each sitting majestically within the wine.
2018 was a great vintage in the Hunter Valley and this is a rare old bird.
