2014 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir is another great release.  When tasted, this wine had just been opened so it was a bit tight.  It needed a bit of time and air to open up but it was sublime.  Spice, earth and cherries.  The palate was quite juicy with the sort of structure that you could only dream about.  It was some wine, would love to have tried 24 hours after the bottle was opened.

Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir is only made in exceptional vintages and is highly sought by collectors of Pinot Noir.  Phillip Jones, winemaker, believes the difference between good Pinot Noir and great Pinot Noir is texture.  To achieve optimum flavour and natural balance, Phillip Jones employes minimal intervention principles during the wine making process.  Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir is classically styled, it displays black cherry, gamey, floral aromas.  The wine is supple with velvety tannins and an underlying smoky oak.  Fruit used for the 2012 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir is sourced from the low cropping low-input four hectare north-east facing vineyard at Leongatha.  Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir is aged in French alliers oak for around 12 to 18 months.  This Pinot possess a hidden power and richness which is revealed after 5 to 7 years of bottle ageing.

Established in 1979, Bass Phillip Winery is located in Leongatha which itself is in the Gippsland Wine Region of Victoria.  Bass Phillip Winery, named after two great explorer's George Bass and Arthur Phillip, specialises in high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  The Reserve Pinot Noir is quite difficult to secure in reasonable size quantities, 6 or 12 bottles because it is extremely limited and is quite expensive.  Phillip Jones has employed organic practices since 1993 and biodynamic since 2002.  Know-how and passion and the main drivers for process at Bass Phillip with attention detail in both the vineyard and wine making room.
