Fruit used to make the 2008 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet was sourced from premium vineyards throughout South Australia with significant contributions from the Barossa Valley and Coonawarra wine regions.

Drought conditions continued in 2008, pushing vintage forward, beginning in mid to late February. Spring was frost free followed by an un-seasonally cool February, allowing optimum ripening conditions for maximum flavour development with balanced acidity. South Australia then struggled through one of the longest heat waves in the State's history, with temperatures staying above 35 degrees for two weeks.  Fortunately fruit picked before the heatwave arrived at the winery in excellent condition.

The 2008 vintage is a blend of Shiraz 78% and Cabernet Sauvignon 22% and the wine was matured in new French and American oak for 12 months.  It will drink well for around 20 years, it is as good as any Penfolds Bin wine.
