2010 Mommessin Clos de Tart Monopole Burgundy.  Clos de Tart is a 7.5 hectare Grand Cru vineyard which is owned by the Mommessin family.  Clos de Tart, situated in Morey-Saint-Denis, is located near the village of Morey and it's a drop punt away from the border of Chambolle Musigny.  Next door to Clos de Tart is Bonnes Mare Grand Cru vineyard.

Different plots of the Clos de Tart vineyard ripen at different stages during the growing season therefore harvesting and fermenting occurs seperately and blending occurs later, so long as the wines reach Sylvain Pitiot’s standards.  The soils throughout Clos de Tart differ somewhat, some parts of the Clos are limestone, others are rocky, there is clay and more finer soils.  Some parcels of vines are well over 100 years of age but the average vine age is 60 years.   Elevation in the Clos changes as much as 30 metres as you climb up the slop and the vine rows have been planted perpendicular to the slope to help with soil retention.

2010 was a great vintage in Burgundy Cote de Nuits rated 96 points. The 2010 Mommessin Clos de Tart is a rare beast, she requires at least 15 years cellaring before it will be ready to show its best.  Drink 2030+
