The wine is full of life with an unbelievable richness and sometimes possess an overwhelming generosity.

If you were to look at a Domaine Mongeard Mugneret Grand Cru Richebourg in the glass each vintage and the age of each bottle will reveal a different story. A Richebourg can be a velvety ruby colour or a dark nocturnal red, shading towards blackish purple. Its colour is dense and quite intense, luminous and shot through with gleams of carmine.

When young, Domaine Mongeard Mugneret Grand Cru Richebourg reveals aromas of Russian leather and musk, with touches of sandalwood. With age the wine acquires scents of peachblossom and hawthorn. Two aromatic families can be distinguished: hints of lichen, mushrooms and undergrowth or scents of black currants, cherries and cooked/preserved fruits.

When young this Richebourg explodes in your mouth, it is somewhat intense and violent. Richebourg needs 5 years to 7 years cellaring, where it will become expansive and warm. Richebourg is a wine that can be cellared for around 20 years, it is an elegant and racy wine.

Those Richebourg's from great vintages are highly sought and are indeed superb, they possess the image of sensuous pleasure. Occasionally they have a touch more finesse than structure, but conversely may possess masses of fruit and energy, and are also compact and muscular in their temperament.
