Dom Perignon, named in honour of a 17th century Benedictine monk, who was no ordinary monk. Dom Perignon was a cellar master at the Benedictine Abbey in Hautvillers and introduced cork to keep the wine fresh and sparkling and bottled Champagne in thicker glass so the bottle was less likely to explode.
