Giaconda Winery is situated in the Beechworth wine region in Victoria. Giaconda Chardonnay is one of Australia’s best Chardonnay’s, each vintage of this wine receives high scores and raving reviews from wine critics.  Giaconda Chardonnay has a super-cult status and, given the tiny production, they are extremely difficult to find for sale.  Giaconda Chardonnay is mainly sold through mail order, a few fine wine online retailers (those lucky enough to get their hands on some bottles) and restaurants.  Giaconda Chardonnay, when young is tight and reserved, it needs time in the bottle, it is however, classically proportioned, complex and enduring, made with the same disregard to modern and allegedly enlightened winemaking techniques as the very best from Burgundy.  It is a cellaring style chardonnay!

An essay in restrained power and balance. Scented with a complex bouquet of grapefruit, melon, lemon meringue, lime juice and yellow peach knit with smoky, matchstick-like oak, it's backed by creamy, nougat-like notes of ginger and cinnamon plus an assertive minerality. Smooth and gentle despite its dense core of citrus/melon flavour, it's sumptuous and fatty but tightens with precision and focus towards a lingering mealy, briney and savoury finish of fresh, tightly balanced acidity. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, it's stylistically located somewhere between the 1995 and 1996 vintages, with something extra. Jeremy Oliver OnWine.com.au
