2010 Penfolds Bin 389 cabernet shiraz.  Penfolds Bin 389 is sometimes referred to as ‘Poor Man’s Grange’ or ‘Baby Grange’ as some of the wine was matured in the same barrels of the previous vintage Penfolds Grange.  Penfolds Bin 389 is a much loved red wine and the best vintages can cellar for decades.  The 1998 Penfolds Bin 389 is a classic Australian wine with some bottles selling for $120 plus.

The 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 cabernet shiraz is vibrant blood-red with a dark core.  The aromas possess barrel-ferment characters, with  prune/dates/fig/quince/soy/hoisin sauce notes with char-grilled Italian vegetables.  On the palate the 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 cabernet shiraz is a full bodied wine with no gaps, it's dark berried fruits/cola/leather flavours (for those of us that eat leather) combine harmonisoly with oak and the cabernt and shiraz dovetail effortlessly.  It's a vibrant Bin 389 with a tangy freshness, lively acidity, and oak.

Fruit for the 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 cabernet shiraz was sourced from vineyards in South Australian wine regions including the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra,  Robe, Wrattonbully, Padthaway, McLaren Vale, and Adelaide Hills.  The 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%) and Shiraz ($(%).  This wine was matured for 14 months in new (40%), 1 year-old (20%) and 2 year-old (20%) American oakhogsheads.
